The MVE program for Fall 2010 has been expanded to offer a wide range of classes tailored to your fitness needs: Level 1, Powerhouse, HardCORE, Cardio Interval, and Fitness Sculpt.
Classes are limited to five participants for more individualized instruction.

Also new for Fall, the Madison Y is offering a special MVe Discount:
Members signing up for MVE who register for one ten-week class or two five-week classes only pay for nine classes, a 10% discount!

MVe Fitness Level 1 has been rescheduled from Tuesdays at 4:30pm
to Mondays at 4:30pm in the Studio.



WillPower & Grace Group Exercise Specialty Class

Fitness Center Orientations

When you become a new member at the Madison Area YMCA you are entitled to three free orientations with a trained fitness center staff person. They will familiarize you with the cardiovascular equipment as well as set you up on the FitLinxx Circuit. After the orientations you will have the confidence to exercise in the Fitness Center on your own. The fitness center is fully staffed during hours of operation to assist members with all related questions and concerns.

Member Activity Pass (MAP)
Non members may purchase a ten visit punch card for a $52 fee that includes access to Zumba Gold, 4-Ever Fit 1, General Conditioning, and Senior Fitness classes. It is a superb way for fitness-seekers, fitness novices, and/or seniors to get started on a path to healthier living.

Wellness Wednesdays NEW!
Our fitness center is open to MAP members from 12:00-2:30 pm on Wednesdays. This small group will be able to use the cardio or strength machines. The small group gives the opportunity for socialization and support. Available to MAP members only, participants must wear lanyards.

4-Ever Fit
Low to moderate levels of fitness welcome, this class combines cardio conditioning with muscle toning and stretches.

Abs, Back and Core
Strengthen these 3 key areas to help keep your body stable and balanced. This 15-minute class is a good complement to Cardio Jam.

AM Interval Express NEW!
An Interval Class designed to boost your metabolism by combining short bursts of cardio with strength training. This class will use a variety of fitness tools including resistance bands, stability balls, medicine balls, gliders and free weights.

Aqua Fit
Uses a variety of water equipment to build resistance and tone muscles. The result is a great cardio workout!

Beginner Step - will resume in Fall 2010
Beginner Step is taught at a slower pace with simple moves and lots of repetition then progressing to basic patterns. This class will provide the background necessary to have confidence in a mainstream step class.

Body Shop - will resume in Fall 2010
A class designed to boost your metabolism using a variety of fitness tools including resistance bands, stability balls, medicine balls, gliders and free weights.

Body Sculpt
A class designed to firm your muscles! Body Sculpting develops muscle strength and endurance while accentuating overall muscle tone. Various types of resistance equipment used.

Boot Camp
A knockout workout! This high-intensity, one-hour interval class uses calisthenics, jump ropes, weights, and other equipment to bring your fitness level to its next level.

Boot Camp Interval
Alternate intense cardio power-moves with some strength power-moves, for a high-energy class. This style of boot camp will definitely help you get into shape!

Box-N-Kick
A knockout approach to cardiovascular conditioning. Classes incorporate the choreographed moves of a boxer with a punch of kick boxing movements

Cardio Jam
Be prepared to sweat! This class offers an intense, high-energy aerobic workout that keeps your heart rate up and your body working hard.

Cardio Tai Boxing
Kickboxing with a twist. An intense class full of kickboxing combinations, with a mind body fusion of Tai Chi.

CSI Madison (Core Strength Interval)
Add some kick to Body Sculpt and you get a powerful interval workout. Using weights and resistance exercises, participants get a great workout that tones and strengthens the entire body.

Funky Functional
NEW!
This class strives to increase core strength which in turn, improves athletic performance and balance. Integrated aerobic, strength, core, and balance exercises are emphasized through the use of a stability ball, bosu, glider disks, medicine balls, dumbbells and other equipment.

Fusion
Are you ready for a workout challenge? This well-balanced training program expands on strength, movement, and other modes of exercise to increase energy and endurance.

General Conditioning
Great for all levels of fitness, this combination class of cardio conditioning and toning is easy to follow and leaves you feeling energized.

Beginner Indoor Cycling
This beginner’s class is designed to initiate members new to indoor cycling. This class will give you the confidence to join in a typical indoor cycling class.

Indoor Cycling
Studio-based intense cardiovascular workout suitable for all levels; simulates outdoor riding.
Class reservations are required.  All others are on a first come, first serve basis.

Teen Indoor Cycling
Pedal to the hottest beats at our new teen cycling class. First-come, first-served. This one fills up fast so be on time! Thursdays from 5:00-5:45pm in the Cycle Room.

Joy
Moderate intensity, highly choreographed cardio routines with prescribed music and basic floor work. With new routines every 10 weeks, it’s not hard to understand why regulars keep coming back!

Jump Interval NEW!
A playground style workout! This class is so much fun you'll forget you're exercising. Alternate heart pumping cardio "jump" songs with drills, games and more. Ropes not required.

Pilates
Mat fitness for the mind and body. Learn postures and movements that improve muscle stabilization, body alignment, and sense of motion to help build a strong, functional body.

Power Moves
Not your basic body sculpt…the high intensity moves will keep you fit. Keep your heart rate up while toning your entire body.

Senior Fitness
A gentle yet challenging class for participants looking to start or maintain a fitness regime. This one-hour class is geared toward all fitness levels and abilities. Non-members: $52/10 classes.

Senior Water Works
Similar to Aqua Fit but designed to address the special cardio, muscular, and stretching needs of this audience.

Step Aerobics
Give variety to your workout with a high-impact step workout. Various levels of choreography as well as "power" moves. Strengthens and tones legs and buttocks.

Step & Hi/Lo
A 45-minute class that offers both Step Aerobics as well as Hi/Lo combinations.

Teen Rock Your Body
Jumpstart your performance with a rockin’ class geared to every teen from those who want to be fit to the competitive athlete. Each class includes cardio to get you moving and strength exercises that focus on toning your upper body. You KNOW you wanna be fit!

Yoga
Whether you’re looking to de-stress or simply have a good stretch, this class is for you. Moving through a series of flowing positions, participants increase strength, flexibility, balance, and concentration.

Zumba 
A dance based fitness craze. Great for people of all ages and all abilities. Infectious music,
easy-to-follow dance moves, and body beautifying benefits. This class is taught by a Licensed Zumba instructor.  Cross-trainer sneakers or Dance shoes/sneakers are highly recommended.  Running shoes/sneakers are not recommended for Zumba.  Socks without shoes or barefeet are not permitted.

Zumba Gold - will resume in Fall 2010
A lower intensity dance based fitness class combining exciting Latin Rhythms with easy to follow steps. This class is designed for the active older adult, the true beginner and/or people who may be limited physically. Come join the fun! This class is taught by a Licensed Zumba Gold instructor. Non-members: $52/10 classes.

Kardio Kids I (Ages 6 - 8) New!
This class will keep kids active for 45 minutes! Enjoy different age appropriate activities each week, such as aerobic games, nutrition activities with our staff nutritionist, agility drills/games, the use of our FitKids Center cardio and strength equipment and much more.  Be prepared for lots of movement, fun and healthy habits to take into their adult lives.

Kardio Kids II (Ages 8 - 10) New!
This class will keep kids active for 45 minutes! Enjoy different age appropriate activities each week, such as aerobic games, nutrition activities with our staff nutritionist, agility drills/games, the use of our FitKids Center cardio and strength equipment and much more. Zumba Kids (Ages 6-9) NEW!
Join the party! Energetic dance moves that boys and girls will not only have fun dancing to, but they will get a good workout at the same time! This class is taught by a Licensed Zumba Kids instructor. Running shoes/sneakers are not recommended for Zumba. Cross-trainer sneakers or Dance shoes/sneakers are highly recommended.

Infant Yoga
This parent and child class gives the special time necessary to bond with your baby, as it allows parents a place to focus, relax and enjoy movement with their child. Parents will learn gentle hands-on yoga exercises for the baby as well as practice simple yet challenging yoga exercises.

Toddler Yoga
Enjoy yoga for yourself while being able to interact with your toddler. This class is set in three parts: first a fun warm up, then yoga for both parent and toddler then ending with a parachute playtime for your child to enjoy. * Toddlers must be actively crawling by registration.

Kids Yoga I (Ages 3.5-5) 
Yoga is a great way to develop strength and flexibility as well as good posture and coordination. The benefits of yoga for kids include a good physical workout as well as increased self-confidence and self-discipline. Traditional yoga techniques will be applied in simple, playful and fun ways.

Kids Yoga II (Ages 6-9)
Discover the fun while you transform your body into cobras, lions and butterflies. These exercises improve strength, flexibility, balance and overall fitness. Appropriate exercises are taught in a safe and fun environment.
 
Kids Fitness Center (Ages 5-10)
Children can use our kid-sized cardio and strength equipment to challenge their cardiovascular, muscular strength and endurance abilities. Kids Fitness Center is located in Kids Central. Instructor will be on duty on Monday and Thursday from 9:00am-12:00pm. Center use is free when parent stays in Kids Central, otherwise babysitting charges apply.

Healthy Kids (Ages 10-11)
Do you have a preteen interested in learning more about the Adult Fitness Center? This program teaches children the proper use of the cardiovascular equipment, Cybex and FitLinxx circuit, as well as general Fitness Center etiquette.

Sports Conditioning (Ages 10-12) and (Ages 13-15)
Work on speed, agility and strength to perform better in your sport. This small group class will work on skills to enhance your child’s athletic performances.

Junior Personal Training (Ages 10 - 15)
One-on-one fitness training sessions with a certified personal trainer who will help you determine the right fitness regime for accomplishing your personal fitness goals.

- Body Composition Analyzer Scale
- Girth Measurements – chest, biceps, hips, thighs and calf
- Three-minute Step Test – cardiovascular endurance and recovery
Follow up session 6 – 8 weeks: $20.00

Fitness Challenges -
This program will challenge you to lose weight or maintain your exercise routines and healthy eating habits. This program will include weekly weigh-ins, workout regimens, personal training sessions, and individual nutrition sessions. Click here for more information.

Mve Powerhouse -
Fresh, fun class like no other offered at the Madison Area YMCA that appeals to men as well as women. Whether you are starting to exercise, wanting to re-energize your workout program, or looking to complement a sport, this core conditioning training will work your entire body as it challenges your strength, balance and coordination. This unique class integrates multiple aspects of fitness and will let you focus on developing strength in the deep muscles and increasing flexibility. Rhythmic movements set to various tempos will uncover muscle imbalances and postural misalignments from everyday living which will improve with this class. The spring loaded chair class is taught in semi private sessions up to 5 students in our new studio. Sessions are 5 weeks long. Exercises are performed with bare feet. The chair weight limit is 300 pounds. Please see our program guide or contact the Health and Fitness department for more information.

MVe Powerhouse Level 1 NEW!
- Learn and perfect the foundation moves of the MVe workout. This iswhere our first time students start, and those who have been there can continue the same class they know and love!

MVe Powerhouse Level 2 NEW! - Building on the foundations of Level 1.   Once you have mastered Level 1 and are looking for more out of the MVe program, continue onto Level 2. Additional exercises challenge the core and work the body like you never have before. Advanced permission required.

MVe Powerhouse Interval NEW!  - Shake up your foundations workout with some heart pumping moves in between the MVe chair workout.  This workout will challenge the body like no other class!

Massage Therapy, Stone Massage Therapy, Chair Massage (ages 16 and older) - Click on the Wellness tab above for details on various massage therapies and rates offered for members and non-members.

Personal Training (ages 16 and older) -
One-on-one training sessions with a certified personal trainer who will personalize a workout to achieve your fitness goals. $58/1 hour appointment; $156/3-1 hour appointments; $552/12-1 hour appointments. $35/30 min. appt.

Restorative Yoga NEW!- A gentle therapeutic style of yoga taught by an experienced teacher. Use of props to support the body and deepen the benefits of the poses. A soothing and nurturing practice that promotes the effects of conscious relaxation.

Sport Specific Junior Training -
Develop strength and power with a certified personal trainer to help with sport performance. $42/ 45-minute session; $234/ 6 45-minute session

Taiji Qigong (T’ai Chi Ch’I Kung) – Taiji (T’ai Chi) is an ancient Chinese system of physical cultivation developed by the legendary sage Zhang San Feng. Taiji can be described as moving meditation and its regular practice improves balance, flexibility and reduces stress. This class will teach a core 13 movement Taiji form that is easy to learn and practice, yet yields powerful results.
